Peace & relaxation

Istria, Croatia

Pomer is a small Village on the southern tip of the peninsula of Istria, 8 km southeast of Pula with about 250 inhabitants. It’s overlying the shallow Cove of Scuza, which used to be very well known due to the fish, oyster and mussel farming.

The beauty of this area has been cherished even by the ancient Romans. Orginating from that period of time, there are still very well-preserved remains of a Roman country villa and a thermal bath existent in the town of Pomer. As a result of the fish and shellfish farming tradition, there are still very good seafood restaurants in town.

The surrounding area is, apart from swimming in clean ocean water, also ideal for walking and cycling (bicycles can be rented out in the village). The surrounding marinas (eg Pomer), the diving schools and the windsurfing centers (Pomer camping) allow for all kinds of water sports.

The small village of Premantura lies at the beginning of the promontory, which  leads to Cape Kamenjak. The cape marks the southern tip of Istria. The headland or peninsula is almost ten kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide.

The houses of Premantura are scattered over the town and the surrounding area, but most of  the peninsula is a protected area. Country lanes pass through a rugged landscape of bushes and shrubs, with the lighthouse of Porer cliff towering at the end.

Around the peninsula there are severeal bathing bays at rocky and pebble  beaches. Nature lovers who are on foot or by bicycle will discover a variety of  rare plants, for example some orchid species. In summer, there is a lot of activity on the Cape – swimming, surfing, paddling.
